The long road home

Yesterday the decision was made to take TP back. DH had taken her out for a ride down the road to get to the field (on my recommendation). I told him if a car came down the road to get off (she was a little nervous Monday when cars passed so figured better safe then sorry). He said a car was approaching so he took her into the ditch to dismount. She went up towards the fence line (by this time the car had passed) so he turned her to go back up the ditch and onto the road. He said when she got to the bottom of the ditch again she jumped straight up and started bucking. As soon as he was off she hauled ass out into the field.

I wasn’t there so I’m sure there is more to the story & I’m sure there are things he could have done to have prevented it but at the same time I really don’t care. DH was trying to come up with excuses as to why she might have bucked like “there was a pop bottle in the ditch, maybe she stepped on it” but again, I really don’t care why she did it. We were looking for a broke horse and to me a broke horse doesn’t even consider bucking. Spooking is one thing but bucking is another.

DH said he did catch her and rode her back to the house and she was ok. I think his pride was hurt more then anything else (although his face is pretty bashed up). It’s been a while since he’s come off. He wanted to give her more time but I didn’t think that was a good idea (I don’t have time nor do I have the desire to play with his ponies anymore). I told him it was his choice but if I wanted to “train” something I’d go to the sale barn and spend $500 on a horse to train. I also told him he needed to consider his safety. He is already on light duty at work because of his back (although he was told he could ride at his appt. on Monday) so we don’t need him getting injured and being unable to work.

Needless to say it was a long, quiet trip taking her back.

Ah, crap. That's too bad. I'm with you, no excuses - no reasons, she should be broke.

I bet that was a REAL quiet ride home.
