Last night was beautiful! It was 62* out and I had hoped to take the kids and the horses for another walk. When I got to the farm I noticed Lucy was eating a bale of hay that was supposed to be behind electric fence. Right next to her was the neighbor’s cattle. Seems my cow horse wants to get friendly with her opponents.
I got the horses in and had Chase plug-in & unplug the fence while I checked it. Dad ended up coming out and just moving the bales further away from the fence while Chase had fun whacking the cows with my crop when they tried to push on the fence. I ended up walking the entire fence line and finding quite a few insulators that had popped out of the staples so I fixed what I could but it got dark fast so the horses got to spend the night in the dry lot.
I hate checking fence but it looks like this weekend we need to go out with a chainsaw (there are quite a few trees in the fence), a hammer and some staples. I at least got it cracking from 1.8-2.2 to 5.5. I’m not sure what a good zap is but the cows seemed to stay off of the fence when it was at 5.5. I can’t blame the cows for pushing on the fence. I just wish the neighbor would feed them a little more often.
