How High Can She Go?

When we got back to MIL’s I put Cat in the stall so we could do a U turn in the pasture. We unloaded the horses and just turned them loose to graze. They deserved it (well I’m not sure if Abby did but……….).

DH pulled the trailer back up to the drive to power wash it and I closed the gates. Cat was having a mild temper tantrum so I decided she could stay in.

You know how CA says if they can get their head over it they think they can get their body over it? LOL Well Cat was trying that. She was rearing up to the top of MIL’s stall door (estimating it at 10 ft. high) and getting her head over it. I started egging her on “come on Cat – you can go higher then that”. LOL

Well it was funny until she came down and had a white spot on her face. I thought it was just cob webs but then I noticed the blood. I grabbed a halter and sure enough she’d sliced her cheek open. DH came and looked and we decided to call the vet.

The Amish built MIL’s barn and when they did they didn’t turn the nails down or break them off if they went through the boards. She apparently caught her cheek on one of the nails as she came down.

MIL was upset. I tried to tell her that the Amish probably didn’t foresee a horse being that high (they’ve obviously never been around a pissed off yearling) and that shit happens.

The vet came out and 5 stitches later Cat was heavily medicated and happy to be back in her stall.

The stitches will come out in 7-10 days. I’ll have pics tomorrow but it really isn’t that bad. If it had been on her leg I’m not sure we would have stitched it but since it was a facial wound we did. Her jaw is still very swollen.
